Lisdexamfetamine is the active component of the pharmaceutical drug Vyvanse. It is primarily used to treat adults and children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Being a prodrug, lisdexamfetamine is inactive until the body metabolises it. Once consumed, Vyvanse transforms into the central nervous system stimulant dextroamphetamine. Dopamine and norepinephrine are two neurotransmitters that dextroamphetamine raises in the brain, helping to reduce symptoms of ADHD such impulsivity, hyperactivity, and inattention.
